We are all socialized to possess inherent prejudices about different groups. Here is an excellent TED Talk given by diversity consultant Vernā Myers on how to confront prejudice and start reprogramming our mindsets. Focusing on racial justice, Myers advocates that listeners reject the “good-doer” norm of colorblindness (“not seeing color”). Instead, Vernā asks us to honestly recognize our racist, sexist, and other oppressive reactions when they arise and strive to foster reconnection by building relationships with people who are different from ourselves.
