No Cost Grocery Program Corner
As part of our goals to engage more BFR participants in No-Cost Grocery Programs, (NCGPs) we have been working to create teams of Grocery Program Coordinators (GPCs),. This helps lighten the workload on individuals and engages more people in decision-making and power-sharing.
The NCGP Canyon Pointe has recently created a team to support one of our longest-term GPCs, Cindy Holmes. We welcome to the team Marie Ann McCarty, John Desbrin, and Mitra Brillstein, and Vit Krusina, a long-time participant who has been doing pick-ups for his community for nearly 10 years.
Thank you all for making the program work well in your community, for your interest in supporting each other, and for joining our cause!
Cultural Caravan Report
We had an amazing time at the 2022 Cultural Caravan events in June. We co-hosted six pop-up concerts with Cultural Caravan and our No Cost Grocery Program Partners.
After a hiatus from in-person community celebrations at No Cost Grocery Programs, it was so lovely to see old friends, celebrate our work, and hear beautiful music from the generous and talented musicians who make up Cultural Caravan.
Hunger Free Colorado Award
Congratulations to BFR’s Co-Director Lindsey Loberg! Lindsey is the recipient of Hunger Free Colorado’s Kathy Underhill Scholarship, “which recognizes an individual leading change in advocacy or health equity as it relates to hunger and healthy food access.” The award comes with a $1000 scholarship to advance their work and professional development.
Lindsey is honored to have their work recognized alongside that of former awardees Fatuma Emmad (Frontline Farming) and Roberto Meza (Emerald Greens and East Denver Food Hub), as well as the scholarship’s namesake, Kathy Underhill, the founding CEO of Hunger Free Colorado.

Frontline Farming Liberation by Land Campaign
Our Friends at Frontline Farming are “taking the next step towards a sustainable future for our people that allows us to steward our own land” with their Liberation by Land Campaign.
From Frontline Farming:
“Like many BIPOC-led groups, we have been serving our community in integral ways for over a decade on land that is not our own— addressing the immediate needs of our community, feeding people at an affordable cost, educating our community and fighting for equitable policy change that protects the most marginalized in our society.
Securing our own land will allow us to write our own narratives and shape our own futures by educating our community, honoring our ancestors, growing our own culturally-relevant foodways, building independent economic systems, manifesting systems change, and co-creating generational wealth for our communities.”
Ways that you can support the Liberation by Land Campaign: amplify our message in your communities, donate funds, and donate land.
